A few weeks ago, I was invited by Warner Bros. Records Celebrity A&R, Anthony Jones to attended a four-day event called the Ocktober Music Festival.

OMF Twenty 11 was a four day music event (October 27-31, 2011) with a different event being held each day.  The first day of events was held at Honey Lounge (243 West 14th Street, NYC), which was a networking mixer.  DJ Kaos and DJ Korrek kept the people moving all night while the bartenders kept the people coming back for the drinks, including their $5 drink specials.  Who doesn’t want a drink after a long, hard day of work?  The wings were pretty good also.  You usually can’t go wrong with wings.

Day two, held at Secret Ultra Lounge (525 West 29th St. NYC), was the “Unsigned Artist” showcase. There, the new artists performed their music for the public.  If you’re into hearing new music, as opposed to listening to the radio — and hearing the same artists over and over again –  then you would have wanted to be here.  Definitely watch for a young artist by the name of Danny Boy.  Remember, you read that here FIRST!

Not even snow in October could stop the people from coming to this event!  Day three was at Tenth Rail (413 10th Avenue, NYC). This day was dedicated to the Panel offering advice and opportunities for some of the unsigned artists. “The Panel” was a group of veteran music A&R and execs that played a major role in some of the careers of today’s pioneers (think LL Cool J!). The Panel included Devin Sartin/MTV/CEO DBA Consulting, Marjorie Plummer/The Source Magazine, Wise McGriff/DEF Jam Recordings, Kalvin Stevens/Warner Brothers Music, AD The General/The Elegant Hoodness Musical Program.  The advice wasn’t just for the performers, artists that didn’t perform could learn a thing or two from seasoned professionals in the game.

Also, the bartenders at Tenth Rail were absolutely great!  Very friendly, very helpful and definitely made sure we were warm, well-fed and comfortable while we enjoyed the event.

The Final day wrapped up with a concert from recording artists which included Cheri Dennis and Allure.

Here are some pics from the event:

Oh, and this post would NOT be complete if there wasn’t a little fashion involved.  I need to know if there is a female version to that grey AM jacket Mr. Cynclair has on in the picture!

Special Thank You to Anthony Jones/Warner Bros. Records Celebrity A&R and Nakeisha Jennings at Prime Planners for having I’m So Hollywood be part of the event.
